Every plastic surgeon will agree that the nose is a crucial piece of the proper-facial-proportion puzzle. While you and I may agree on what an ideal nose shape is, your friend—and most importantly, your surgeon—may have a different idea in mind. Kirkland, WA facial plastic surgeon Daniel J. Liebertz, MD reminds us that the “perfect nose” is a fluid definition. “It depends upon a person’s facial size, structure, and balance—however, there are general principles that follow.”
“When considering a change to one of the most prominentfeatures of the face, it is important that the nose be modified to fit the dimensions of the face,” adds Scottsdale, AZ facial plastic surgeon Kelly V. Bomer, MD. “It is unwise to try to put a nose from another face onto someone else because it will most likely not work out well.”
New York plastic surgeon Mokhtar Asaadi, MD agrees. “Patients should know that every nose is different and must match the face. However, it’s not unlikely to tell a patient during an initial conversation that their facial features and nose are similar to a certain celebrity.”
Inspiration Station
Nashville, TN plastic surgeon Daniel A. Hatef, MD says that while he doesn’t get too many requests for specific celeb noses, he does ask his patients to bring in inspiration photos. “I want to get an idea of how stylized they want their nose to appear. Do they want a sharp looking tip, or a softer looking tip? Do they want a straight dorsum, or do they want to have elevation of the tip beyond the level of the dorsum? My personal style is more stylized and elevation of the tip beyond the dorsum, but not everyone has that aesthetic in mind.”
